Abstract

In order to improve the qualify of machine translation, the valency pattern method is known to be effective to analyze the semantic relationships between verbs and nouns. But it is insufficient for Japanese-to-English machine translation to collect valency pattern pairs from Japanese- EngIish dictionaries. Dictionaries for human use have accessible but incomplete lexical knowledge, whereas human knowledge is wide-ranging but inaccessible. Based on a trial to create bilingual sentences by reflection, we describe the prospects for comprehensively conecting valency pattern pairs.
